Thank you for your feedback on our proposed safety improvements along Albany Highway in Cannington.
We plan to improve safety and efficiency by:
- extending the right turn pocket on Albany Highway to Nicholson Road to reduce the number of cars stacking at the traffic lights
- converting Station Street to have left-in, left-out access only by closing the median on Albany Highway, to reduce the risk of crashes. There have been 55 crashes over the last five years at this intersection, 70% of which were due to drivers turning right; and
- extending the right turn pocket on Albany Highway to Liege Street to improve traffic flow on Albany Highway and allow safer right turn movements into Liege Street.
The first stage of of works (the Station Street intersection) is anticipated to be completed prior to the end of 2024. The second stage of works will likely get underway in 2025, after the Armadale rail line reopens.
