Dongara-Geraldton-Northampton Route Planning Study

Main Roads is seeking to identify the long term future road corridor alignment between Dongara, Geraldton and Northampton. This road will provide a safe and efficient network for all users, accommodate increasing traffic volumes and the largest heavy vehicle combinations, and will separate regional traffic from the local traffic of the three townsites on the route.

The current stage in the road planning process is to confirm the preferred corridor. Once selection is finalised, this corridor will be the subject of further detailed analysis to inform the ultimate road alignment.

We are currently seeking your views on Main Roads’ preferred corridor. Visit our interactive map for more information.

A number of corridor options have been identified and assessed against a range of qualitative and quantitative criteria. An initial shortlist of three corridors to the north and three to the south of Geraldton was identified and consulted on in 2015. Since that time, further work has refined this shortlist to a preferred option.

Further information can be found on Main Roads' website including:

You can view the preferred corridor under investigation by visiting the interactive map.

The survey has now closed and Main Roads is considering your feedback.

NEXT STEPS

We are also seeking additional information about traveller movements in and around Dongara and Geraldton to inform a socio-economic impact study (SEIS) as part of the planning work.

If further investigations recommend feasible changes to the preferred corridor, we will engage with additional landowners as required.

Once the outcomes of any additional investigations are understood, Main Roads will brief the State Government and Transport Minister on the progress of the study and update the Alignment Selection Report to reflect the final preferred road corridor and ask local and State Government to endorse the recommendation.

Once the corridor is confirmed by the State Government, we will investigate opportunities to protect the corridor and progress the Alignment Definition phase of the planning study to determine the exact location and configuration of the final road within the corridor.
