Planning is underway to build an overpass bridge over the roundabout at the Nicholson Road, Garden Street and Yale Road junction in Thornlie, providing a direct connection between Nicholson Road (north) and Garden Street (south).
This will improve safety and efficiency, and reduce congestion at this well-known congestion location by shifting a significant proportion of traffic away from the roundabout on to the overpass bridge. The current roundabout will be retained and improved, allowing all movements between these roads and will have less traffic going through it.
The scope of works includes the following:
- Construct a bridge to connect Garden Street and Nicholson Road that sits over the existing roundabout.
- Realign and widen the slip road on Nicholson Road (eastbound) to Nicholson Road northbound.
- Create drainage that suits the upgraded road environment.
- Extend the existing pedestrian/cyclist underpass and local path network within the project area.
- Construct noise and screen walls, where planning policy requires, and in agreement with the City of Gosnells.
- Relocate impacted services (electricity, telecommunication, water and gas and sewer).
