Orrong Road Planning Study

We’re currently working to identify the best solution for upgrading Orrong Road between Leach Highway and Great Eastern Highway.

After investigating a range of options, a preferred concept has been developed. This involves building Orrong Road below ground level, to ensure key local road connections are maintained. It's important to note this is a long-term planning study and there are currently no funds for construction.

Do you get stuck in traffic along Orrong Road?

If you are among the 65,000 motorists who use Orrong Road every day, you would have experienced first-hand the traffic congestion that can occur.

Our proposed solution is designed to:

  • Enhance safety by separating local and through traffic as well as providing safer crossing opportunities for pedestrians.
  • Improve traffic flow with travel times expected to drop to 5 minutes via the preferred expressway compared to the previously proposed six-lane highway
  • Provide local connectivity by maintaining local access via surface roads.

Watch our video detailing the concept and what we considered in our investigations.

Some of the issues we've identified in developing our preferred concept include:

  • Preserving property: Land impacts, especially for residential landowners, are significantly reduced when compared to the previously proposed full six lane highway.
  • Traffic noise: The majority of the Orrong Road expressway will be below ground, reducing traffic noise.
  • Visual amenity: The preferred concept provides opportunities for increased landscaping and public art in the local area.

Drive through our proposed concept for the future Orrong Road.
