WA Heavy Vehicle Accreditation (WAHVA): Remote Audits Trial

In response to requests from the Transport Industry, combined with advances in technology, Main Road is undertaking a trial of remote audits for HVA for a period of 12 months.
For Industry wanting to participate in the trial, Remote Audit Requirements have been developed to clearly set out what type, and how, remote HVA audits should be conducted.
Prior to the trial commencing - Main Roads is making the Remote Audit Requirements document available for comment until midday Friday 26 May 2023.
Have your say: WAHVA Remote Audits - Proposed 12 Month Trial
Remote audits would benefit the operators who already utilise electronic systems to manage their records, ie; Gearbox, Fleetio, Dropbox etc.
Remote auditing would be very beneficial for operators in rural and remote areas.
Hi
I support the concept of remote audits as outlined in the Requirements document but have a couple of questions - who is responsible for determining whether an auditor is available within a 200km radius and will Main Roads audit auditors for records and documents collected?
I think this can work for smaller operators, but with a larger company with more than 10 vehicles it could be problematic due to the time factor on zoom etc. The operator would need to be well prepared and not hunt for records during the audit as so often happens. When we had Covid it was the only way at times. Drop boxes work well, and aren't too difficult to master as long as the operator can manage them. This would cut down on the zoom time. Making provision for Remote Audits is a good move, just so long as the auditor is able to access everything that a face to face audit provides. NH Petrovic.
This is a good opportunity for all auditors and operators with bases in all states and territories.
Although most WA audits i conduct take no less than 5 hours F2F. A remote audit with provision of documentation prior to the audit interview will certainly save travel time and interview time.
I agree with John, saving audit video meetings will be quite large in file size. A suggestion, perhaps the auditor retains the video file and can provide a copy to operator and/or Main Roads upon written request
Yes 100% think this is great , I have had to spend 6 - 7 hrs on the road in one day to carry out one 2-3 hr audit in locations such as Pingerup and Corrigin.
2 Scope 3rd para - what about system entry Audits ?
3.1 point 2 - suggest the video be kept by the auditor - a 40 minute interview will create a file around 100 Mb - two problems - 1. the file will require drop box to send to the operator -most don't have it or know how to use it. 2. the auditor wont lose it, an auditor will be able to find and share via dropbox.
3.1 point 3 - If we are keeping it what's the issue, the operator only usually gets the audit report ? - this is duplication for duplication's sake.
3.3 - will the business rules be amended - currently any audit of more than 2 PM's requires face to face
