Help shape the future of artificial reefs in and around Cockburn Sound

Artificial reefs are man-made underwater structures designed to mimic the functions of natural reefs. When carefully planned and positioned they can provide habitat for marine life, support biodiversity, enhance recreational opportunities such as fishing and diving, and in some cases, assist with coastal protection.

To support the long-term health of Cockburn Sound — a key ecosystem and place of recreation for Western Australians — Westport is conducting a feasibility study on the potential installation of new artificial reefs in and around Cockburn Sound.

Westport is inviting the community to provide feedback through this short survey.

We would like to understand whether you support the installation of new artificial reefs, what purpose they should serve, and which locations are preferred.

This is an early-stage consultation as part of a feasibility study. If the project progresses beyond the feasibility stage, further technical work and community consultation will be undertaken to inform future planning and design stages.

A report detailing what we heard from this survey will be shared via our
