The new Fremantle Traffic Bridge will create a striking gateway to Walyalup (Fremantle).
While most of the new bridge can be constructed with the existing crossing open, the bridge will need to fully close to complete the project - limiting access and impacting commute times, particularly along Stirling Highway and Canning Highway, and crossing Stirling Bridge.
Based on the current timetable, a 12-month closure of the bridge is anticipated to commence in early 2026. This means that approximately 24,000 vehicles per day that use the bridge will seek alternatives, including Stirling Bridge, which carries around 40,000 vehicles per day.
Reducing vehicle numbers on the road network is critical to avoid significant congestion once the Fremantle Traffic Bridge closes.
It will take a combined effort from all road users, including freight, truck and car drivers, as well as people walking, riding bikes and scooters, to navigate this disruption. Everyone is asked to think about how they can reconsider travel options to move safely and efficiently during this time.
