Geraldton and Mid West 2050 Regional Cycling Strategy

We want to know your local travel needs and experiences to help guide the future of active transport across Geraldton and the Mid West.

In collaboration with the City of Greater Geraldton and the Shires of Carnamah, Chapman Valley, Coorow, Irwin, Mingenew, Northampton and Three Springs, the Department of Transport and Major Infrastructure is developing a regional cycling strategy for Batavia Coast and parts of the North Midlands subregion of the Mid West.

This activity is based on review of the existing regional strategy for Geraldton, expanding it to better cover key townsites and identify intraregional connections.

The strategy aims to set out a long-term vision for bike riding across the region, including an aspirational cycling network with proposed infrastructure.

When complete, the updated and expanded strategy will be used to guide funding decisions and prioritise key bike riding projects in the Mid West.

Locals and visitors are encouraged to complete the short survey, contribute to our collaborative map, and chat to us in person at a drop-in session. Survey submissions close 3 September 2026.

Delivery of priorities

Since the first edition of the strategy was published in 2018, the City of Greater Geraldton has progressed 9 out or the 14 priority projects:

• 4 completed
• 5 commenced.

Two notable projects include the Chapman Road Shared Path – providing a continuous link between Corallina Quays and Glenfield Beach Drive, and the Railway Road Safe Active Street in Bluff Point – providing a safe on road cycling environment between St Lawrence Primary School and Spalding Park.

The delivery of these projects is a fantastic success for the City. The expansion of the strategy seeks to build on active transport opportunities and develop the network further into the region.
