Roll-Coupling Policy – Have Your Say
In recent years, WA has seen a considerable increase in heavy vehicle rollover incidents. As a result, Main Roads Heavy Vehicle Services (HVS) is developing a Roll-Coupling Policy to support the safe and consistent design and operation of heavy vehicle combinations across Western Australia.
To help develop this, we partnered with Tiger Spider, an independent transport engineering company with extensive experience in heavy vehicle safety performance, who carried out detailed research, testing and analysis. This has been used to shape a draft policy and design approach — and now we’d like to hear from you.
Whether you're a vehicle manufacturer, engineer, designer or operator, your experience and insight are important in making sure this policy works in practice.

Help shape the Roll-Coupling Policy
Main Roads Heavy Vehicle Services is seeking your input on the draft Roll-Coupling Policy and proposed implementation, as outlined below:
All trailers used in Non-PBS RAV configurations built after 1 January 2028 will need to be fitted with the prescribed Roll-Coupling.
Operators are encouraged to fit the Roll-Coupling to their RAV's, regardless of age, particularly those identified as high risk combinations.
Operators involved in multiple rollover events may be directed by Main Roads to fit the prescribed Roll-Coupling to their fleet, within a specified time frame to retain their WA Heavy Vehicle Accreditation.
Whether you’re an operator, manufacturer, engineer or designer, your feedback will help us understand how the policy may impact real-world vehicle design, manufacturing and operations.
