Regional Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle Taxi Service Grants - Broome consultation

The Department of Transport is administering a new Regional Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle (WAV) Taxi Service Grant. These grants aim to establish WAV taxi services in towns where none exist, and contribute towards the cost of purchasing or replacing WAV taxis.

WAVs require specific equipment (such as ramps and hoists) to safely transport passengers seated in wheelchairs. Please note: people who use wheelchairs may still be able to access taxi services in conventional vehicles.

Broome has been chosen to pilot the grant scheme due to its lack of an existing WAV taxi service and popularity as a tourism destination.

There are two ways we would like to hear from you:

1. Complete the survey below to help us understand:
   • the experiences of people who use wheelchairs when they are travelling to and moving around Broome;
   • what impact the establishment of a WAV taxi service in Broome may have on the community; and
   • how viable a WAV taxi service may be in Broome.
2. Register to attend a townhall meeting in Broome with representatives from DoT, and/or organise a one-to-one meeting with our representatives.

Your feedback will help us shape the grant pilot in Broome, and inform how the grants are rolled out to other regions in WA.
