Development is underway to upgrade a critical section of the State’s transport network by widening Tonkin Highway from just south of Roe Highway to Kelvin Road from four to six lanes and to a freeway standard.
The project includes removing three sets of signalised intersections at Hale Road, Welshpool Road and Kelvin Road.
Early planning indicated a flyover was the preferred solution for the intersection with Hale Road and no connection between the roads. However, in response to community and stakeholder feedback, a new option will now provide a connection to Tonkin Highway for drivers heading to and from the City and Airport.
In September and October 2021, we sought information from the community about their typical use of the road network in this area, as well as their areas of interest related to the project.
